The Ceremonies

Eight ways to be answered.

Every curse costs the same $9.99. What changes is the ceremony: what the Spirits go after, and how the wrong is repaid. Pick the one that fits what was done to you — and if none of them quite does, choose Misfortune and let the Spirits decide.

Misfortune

Their luck turns from them.

The oldest ceremony, and the one the Spirits are freest with. It does not strike at any one part of a life; it withdraws the small mercies that hold a life together. Appointments slip. Plans that should hold come apart at the last hour. Nothing collapses, and nothing announces itself, but the days stop yielding.

Choose it when the wrong was broad, or when you would rather the Spirits decided where it lands.

Karma Returned

What they did returns to them.

The wrong is turned back on the one who did it, in the shape they gave it. What they took from another is taken from them; what they withheld is withheld. The Spirits work from your account of it, so the more exactly you say what was done, the more exactly it comes home. This is the ceremony people ask for most.

Choose it when what they did has a clear shape that can be handed back.

Unrest

No peace until they make it right.

This one goes after quiet. Sleep thins. The hours when there is nothing to do become the hardest hours. What they have done stops staying where they put it and starts surfacing unbidden, in the middle of ordinary things. It lifts if they set the matter right, and not before.

Choose it when they have carried on untroubled while you have not.

Heartbreak Reversal

For the one who broke faith.

The ceremony for betrayal in love. It does not seek anyone new for you and it does not bring them back. It takes the ease they found in breaking faith and removes it, so that what they reached for stops being worth the reaching. Trust becomes difficult for them in the way they made it difficult for you.

Choose it for infidelity, for abandonment, for a promise broken in private.

Silence

Their words lose their power.

For a wrong done with the mouth: the lie repeated until it was believed, the confidence carried to the wrong ears, the story told about you while you were not in the room. The Spirits do not stop them speaking. They take the weight out of it. What they say lands softer each time, until the people who once leaned in have stopped listening.

Choose it when the damage was done by talking.

Hollow Crown

For the one who rules by taking.

For the manager, the bully, the one who stood on the work of others and called the view their own. The Spirits leave the position where it is and empty it out. The deference thins. The room reads them differently. Standing that was built on other people stops holding weight, because it was never theirs to stand on.

Choose it when the wrong came from above you and you could not answer it.

Long Memory

They will not be allowed to forget.

For the wrong that was waved away, made small, or simply outlasted. They have moved on and you have not, and they have been permitted to believe it was nothing. This ceremony revokes that permission. What they dismissed returns to them at its true size, and keeps returning, until they have carried it as long as you have.

Choose it when they were never made to answer for it.

Ask for Long Memory

Banishment

Sever their hold on you.

The one ceremony aimed at you rather than at them. It asks nothing upon another person; it cuts what still runs between you and someone you cannot get free of. If you believe you have been cursed yourself, or that someone's hold on you has outlived any contact with them, this is the ceremony to ask for. Nothing is placed on the Wall.

Choose it when you want to be let go, not to answer back.

Ask for Banishment

No ceremony calls for death, injury, illness or ruin, and the Spirits will not perform one against a public figure or a child. For entertainment purposes only.

Name them.

Tell the Spirits who wronged you, what they did, and which ceremony to perform.
